Commander
Thank you for placing the trust in me to serve as the Detachment Commander for 2010-11. With not only being the candidate for Commander, but also Liaison to the Convention Committee I had a whirlwind week in Wildwood. Thank you everyone for your help with the convention, especially those who helped work the registration desk. I would like to thank Squadron #133 for providing the color guard for our wreath laying ceremony at the Vietnam Veteran’s Wall across from the convention hall. I had the high honor of being installed by the National Vice Commander for the Northeast Region of the American Legion, Mark Avis. We were also fortunate to have the candidate for National Vice Commander East for the Sons of the American Legion, Joe Gladden at our convention. Both Vice Commander Avis and Joe Gladden kicked off my commander’s project with a donation, and I thank both for that. I would like to thank Commander Bob Looby and President Linda Carroll for really making us feel like part of the American Legion Family. I anticipate a great year with their continued partnership with the Sons of the American Legion. Also, I would not be Detachment Commander without the help and support of all the Past Detachment Commanders, our Chairman Norm Marlin and my home Post #352 in Somers Point. Again, Thank you everyone !!
On June 19th I attended our Detachment Bingo and Pizza party at the Vineland Veteran’s Home. I would like to thank Carl Albern and Phil Boyd for their help. Please make an effort to attend these parties. The Vet’s really appreciate it and they deserve our support. I attended both the opening ceremonies and Graduation for Boys State at Rider College the week of June 20th. About 860 high school juniors participated and learn leadership skills, how governments are run, and make connections that last a lifetime. Senator Robert Menendez spoke at graduation and was also a participant of the program in the ‘70’s. I would like to congratulate PDC Marsden on his 10th year assisting with Boys State. I also attended the Memorial Service at High Point on June 27th. We had a strong turn out from the SAL and I would like to thank all the officers, PDC’s and members that attended. This year can be great, but I need everyone's help. Please contact me if you have up coming events, questions, or want to get involved. joemargate@aol.com or 609-529-2996For God and Country
