Detachment of New Jersey Commander

C. David Page

2017 - 2018

Hello American Legion Family,

First I would like to apologize for not updating my report sooner. Second I would like everyone to know that I'm honored to be elected as New Jersey's Detachment Commander 2017 - 2018.

Thank you all for your support.

Well we are one month and two weeks into the new year. I've been very busy getting all the Detachment Officers and Committees lined up to get rolling towards our goals for this year. Also, I've been out doing ceremonies, visiting Posts supporting there events and installing officers. My official travel report will be posted here before our first meeting in August.

This year we have a lot of things to work on, and we are going to need your help. Here's a little list.

MEMBERSHIP : We've been hanging around 9600 to 9800 members for the past couple of years. Please remember that our membership is our lifeblood. We all need to work on this. We do get new members but, we have lost quite a few. Lets reach out to see why people have walked away. See if we can solve what went wrong. RETENTION is the key. I personally would like to see the number of SAL members reach 10,000 I think this goal is attainable, but WE NEED YOUR HELP TO DO THIS.

OFFICER REPORT FORMS :  These forms can be found on forms link on our home page. These need to be filled out every year so that you can receive mail from The Department. The Department clears out all old information every year. Please mail them to : THE AMERICAN LEGION BUILDING 5  2ND FLOOR   171 JERSEY STREET  TRENTON N.J.  08611   The Department will not mail you or your Squadron without this form being sent in.

CSR FORMS : (REPORTING WHAT YOU DO) We have 150 + Squadrons. Last year we only received 15 Squadron reports and 3 County reports. THIS IS HORRIBLE. By not reporting it's hurting our Nations Veterans. The National Legion and Auxiliary take these reports and compile all the information and go to our government in Washington to get more help for our veterans. ( These numbers come from our world wide organization ) We as the state of New Jersey have let our veterans down. We need to do better next year PLEASE. We have plenty of help across the state to get you help to complete this task.

These are the 3 main things we need your help with.

Please go to the committees list page and see where your passion is. We need help on our committees. Committee and Commission Chairmen's info is listed there.

Personally, as Detachment Commander I would like to hear from the little Squadron up north and the little Squadron down south and all in between. WE ARE ALL BROTHERS.

Lets have a great year, a lot of fun, meet new people and enjoy old friends.   Remember Community, State and Nation.
